In the last few weeks, Years 7-10 students worked in tutor groups on projects for the first SPIP Science Design Symposium. Year 7 students made cardboard airplanes that had to fly as far as possible. Year 8 tutor groups designed and constructed ball-run tracks made of only paper and tape. The Year 9 challenge was to make a contraption to protect a raw egg as it is dropped from another floor. Year 10 students built wind turbines made from recycled materials and their spinning speeds were measured. Last Friday, these projects were put to the test and we got to see them in action. Seeing innovative ideas come to life was entertaining for both students and teachers. We hope to come up with more fun design challenges for next year!
